WhatsApp Business Isn't Enough: Why You Need a Real Website Too
2 August 2026 · Webman Team

WhatsApp Business is one of the best things to happen to small commerce in Nigeria. It's instant, it's familiar, and customers already have it open all day. For a huge number of businesses, it's the entire storefront — and for early-stage operations, that's a completely reasonable place to start.
But WhatsApp has a discovery problem a website doesn't. Someone has to already know your number, or find you through a shared contact, or stumble on a status update, before a WhatsApp conversation can even begin. A website shows up in a Google search for "caterer in Lekki" or "generator repair Abuja" from someone who has never heard of your business before this exact moment. That's a fundamentally different job than WhatsApp is built to do.
A website also does things a chat thread structurally can't: show a full catalog someone can browse at their own pace without typing "send your price list," hold a portfolio of past work, or simply look established to someone deciding whether to trust a business they've never dealt with before. Trust is not a small thing to sell without.
The two aren't competitors — they're built for different moments. WhatsApp is where a conversation happens once someone's decided to reach out. A website is what gets them to that point in the first place, especially with people who don't yet know you exist.
Webman's Smart WebBuilder includes a direct "Chat on WhatsApp" button on every site by default — so a visitor who finds you through a search can move straight into the WhatsApp conversation you already know how to handle, instead of choosing between the two.
